Austria

Welcome to the Land of the Mountains

In cooperation with the Austrian National Tourist Office
In cooperation with Österreich Werbung the Austrian state tourism office

The Austrian mountain range does not only attract the masses in the winter months when countless skiers and snowboarders are on the pistes and slopes of the many Austrian ski regions. In the summer time with fresh mountain air you can go on a climb or hike and enjoy the splendid panorama of the Alps during a picnic. Up to the mountains!

Tyrol

Actively discover the mountain range

One can experience the spectacular mountain landscape of Tyrol in many different ways: By water, land or in the air on a climbing expedition.
Whether an enjoyable paddle with the canoe or a more eventful rafting tour – Tyrol has an array of water sport activities on offer. Tranquil canoe paddles on one of the many rivers flowing through Tyrol provide a great opportunity to take in the fascinating views of the imposing mountain ranges on both sides. Those seeking a special thrill may want to go rafting in the Imster Valley in Ötztal. It is renowned for having the most spectacular white water route in the Alps and offers a mix of high waves, massive swells and some quieter spots.
It can be also be fun exploring the beautiful landscape of Tyrol by bike. There are a number of nice cycle routes like e.g. in the renowned Zillertal and they invite you to go on long tours. Equally mountain bikers will find this region to their liking. Sport enthusiasts are recommended to try out the Zillertaler Höhenstraße where one has to overcome an altitude difference of more than 1,460 metres. Starting point is Ried but should the 40 kilometres be too long then one can choose an alternative point.
Those seeking a dare will find a number of climbing challenges available for an eventful day of adventure. One of the hikes hat can be recommended is the 17 kilometre long Tour of Hochzirl up to the Erlspitze. On arrival at the summit a spectacular view awaits you of the surrounding mountain range. Should you prefer a more leisurely mountain hike then it is possible to climb many summits without safety ropes and snap hooks.
Tyrol really cannot be surpassed in respect to vitality, relaxation and a unique nature experience. At the end of the day you can spend some quality time with your loved ones on the terrace of your holiday hut and make new plans for the coming day.

Austria

From the slopes to the opera house

Austria has always been one of Europe’s most popular holiday countries. The mountainous world of the Alps in Tyrol, Carinthia, Vorarlberg, Steiermark and Salzburger Land offer ideal conditions for a great active holiday during the summer months. Whether hiking, cycling, climbing or extreme activities such as rafting and paragliding - the options are diverse. You can find brilliant conditions for a hiking holiday with stunning nature impressions for example in the National Park Hohe Tauern or in the idyllic Zillertal.
During the winter months the snowy slopes in the small and large ski regions such as Ski Amade, Ski Zillertal or Ötztalarena charm skiers as well as snowboarders.
Alongside the alpine world also Austrian cities attract many holidaymakers. The renowned capital Vienna, the historic centre of classical music impresses with its sights, famous coffee houses as well as celebrated opera houses and theatres. Salzburg, the city of Mozart, is especially known for its Salzburg Festival and the delicious Mozart balls. In 2003 the city Graz was the European Capital of Culture followed by the Upper Austrian city Linz in 2009.
