A never ending beach
Aquitaine | The light-hearted enjoyment of life can be felt everywhere in France but nowhere is it as beautiful and diverse as in Aquitaine. The southern Atlantic coast of France stretches from the mouth of the Gironde to the Spanish border. More than 250 kilometres of almost continuous beach shape the region and provide for great holidays. Behind the beach there are thick pine forests which are the ideal place for cycling tours.
But sun, beach and the sea are not all Aquitaine has to offer. Numerous castles, chateaus and prehistoric caves are just waiting to be discovered. Smaller and larger cities such as the capital Bordeaux, the spa town Dax or Pau located high up in the Pyrenees are very appealing. However the other smaller villages and towns have many sights and are also worth a visit. And whilst you’re travelling why not plan in a quick detour to one of vineyards of the wine growing regions Medoc and Bordeaux and take a good wine home with you. When you arrive back in your holiday home you can prepare a typical Aquitaine dish with fresh regional ingredients from the local market – turning your holiday into a gourmet tour! Aquitaine comprises of the three coastal départements Landes, Gironde and Pyrenées-Atlantiques as well as the départements Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne in the inland.
Further information on the départements can be found on the holiday home selection for Aquitaine.
