From the slopes to the opera house

Austria has always been one of Europe’s most popular holiday countries. The mountainous world of the Alps in Tyrol, Carinthia, Vorarlberg, Steiermark and Salzburger Land offer ideal conditions for a great active holiday during the summer months. Whether hiking, cycling, climbing or extreme activities such as rafting and paragliding - the options are diverse. Alongside the alpine world also Austrian cities attract many holidaymakers. The renowned capital Vienna, the historic centre of classical music impresses with its sights, famous coffee houses as well as celebrated opera houses and theatres. Salzburg, the city of Mozart, is especially known for its Salzburg Festival and the delicious Mozart balls. In 2003 the city Graz was the European Capital of Culture followed by the Upper Austrian city Linz in 2009.
