Culinary and cultural pleasures

Even though Dordogne situated in the centre of Aquitaine with no access to the ocean it still has a number of attractive features. The place is a focal point for gourmets. Probably like nowhere else in France one is able to indulge culinary delights. Fois gras, duck produce, ham, nuts, cépe and wines are just some of the culinary riches to be enjoyed here. Best you buy some truffles at one of the markets and prepare some tagliatelle with them. Add some butter and garlic and your luxury dish is complete. Need some exercise after dinner? Then take a stroll up towards one of the numerous caves.  Next to the culinary offerings Dordogne has culturally a lot to offer. This includes for example the prehistoric cave drawing in the “Grotte de non Pair” which are at least 20.000 years old. Hike along the paths of our ancestors over winding paths in the groves and look forward to the sunset afterwards on the terrace of your holiday house with a glass of red wine.

    Der Ort Nanthiat ist winzig und es gibt dort keine Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Aber das ist kein Nachteil: alle zwei Tage kommt ein Bäckerauto bis vor's Haus gefahren und bietet frische Backwaren an. Der nächste Supermarkt ist in Thiviers, ca. 8 km entfernt. In ca. 5 km Entfernung gibt es einen schönen Badesee. Überall gibt es schöne kleine Dörfer, viele Schlösser, Höhlen sind zu besichtigen (die berühmteste ist wohl Lascaux, mit dem Auto ca. 45 Min. entfernt). Man kann wandern, Kanufahren, reiten und vieles mehr. In Thiviers gibt es ein nettes kleines Museum zur Foie Gras, die man auch vielerorts direkt beim Erzeuger erwerben kann. Die "richtigen" Touristenzentren sind allerdings weiter im Süden, und durch die kleinen, kurvenreichen Straßen braucht man für 70 km schon mal 1 1/2 Stunden. Aber allen, die die Natur und die Ruhe lieben (gerade auch mit Kindern), den Charme der französischen Provinz entdecken wollen und das Perigord erkunden ist diese Ferienwohnung wärmstens zu emopfehlen!
