Birds and beasts, Estonia
One of Europe's great unsung hotspots for wildlife, the Estonian countryside boasts pygmy owls, black storks and the wonderful Steller's eider. If birdwatching is not your thing, mix and match some brown bear or raccoon dog tracking, an elk and wild boar safari, a beaver boat trip and, brilliantly, an expedition to watch flying squirrels.

A unique opportunity to experience how people lived in Saaremaa in old times. We offer a cottage, or rather an outhouse, with one room and old-fashioned furniture (in good condition). The house is situated in the south coast of Saaremaa near a protected bay. It is just far enough from the sea to avoid the breezes and close enough for a stroll down to the beach (~1000 meters). The surroundings are very beautiful.

Modern comforts would only spoil the impression of the house but for preparing food and having your meal there is an outdoor kitchen in a separate building, see pictures. This outdoor kitchen is shared with the other two huts on this property A privy is conveniently located close to the house. In the house you find two rooms, each with two beds, a table with two stools, hooks for your clothes and a chest. Please observe that in cold weather you may need sleeping bags as there is no heating in the house. There is no electricity in the cottage, but near the house is an outlet you can use, for instance for charging your phone.

A new, detached sauna building will be ready spring 2009. Heating this sauna and filling the wooden hot tub for you is at additional fee.

By the beach you find secluded picnic-tables and a volleyball-field. The beach is however rather private and never crowded because it is not very easy to find. There is a boat you may rent and there is lots of fish in the bay.

The house can be rented for any time period also in peak season, why not try this place 2 nights in connection to your stay on the mainland?

If you are a larger group of people visiting Saaremaa you may want to look at the other two huts on this property:

Also the "real" houses are very near.

“Recommendable for the great setting. There is very much outside space, primitive sleepinghut, cooking in larger primitive hut with fridge, running water, microwave and romantic on a woodstove. Sauna and warm shower. It's something inbetween camping and visiting a viking dwelling with original attributes. Price is low,”

“Very nicely located in the middle of the forest. The water is about 15 minutes. within walking distance, but there is no "beach " in the traditional sense. With the rowing boat from the owner (optional) you can explore the vast shallow bay and have a fantastic nature experiences. We had the evening saw a moose in the bay. The house was 4 (2Erw / 2 children) furnished ideal and very comfortable for us. The beautiful capital Kuresaare is about 25min away by car. Shopping facilities are around 3 km away, but it is a small shop, better go right after Kuresaare. A wooden sauna to be heated and a nice fireplace Sweden make the sometimes chilly evenings cozy.
Highly recommended, if you want nature and peace (no immediate neighbors except the second house of the landlord).”

“Viking Cottage is a real holiday dream!
Several wooden houses are distributed well in a natural idyll. The whole area is very well maintained with the right amount of wildness.
We (a vieköpfige families) stayed in the largest of the houses. Lovingly decorated with memorabilia from decades of Estonian history and family history. At the same time modern with fitted kitchen, a comfortable bathroom and a sauna.
Everything was super clean when we arrived, flowers were on the tables, we immediately felt at home.
The house has a large wooden terrace, in the garden there is a barbecue pavilion.
Through the generosity of the whole area you get other residents hardly face.
Beonderers highlight for children: A historic windmill is also behind the house.

The (very nice) owner has provided us with a home made available that was still more generous than that we booked. But applies a super value for money for both. We were traveling in Estonia and up to a 3-bed room with Gemeinschaftklo in a Russian-run hostel in the country Viking Cottage was our cheapest accommodation, while the most comfortable.

The sea is approximately 1 kilometer away. There is a public swimming area, which we used daily. The water is quite shallow, and there are many plants. Not for long swimming but great to cool off and splash around.

The landlord has there also a rowing boat that we could use.
The house is easily accessible and great for anyone who wants to be "in itself" and in nature times. We have finally lost track of time, as otherwise never.
    Just right for "decelerate".
Most impressive, it was to be there in the middle of the wonderful nature at this picturesque area which seems to come from an Astrid Lindgren book, with gates, fireplace, low walls, flowers, moss carpet, ...”

“Our house was a very comfortable blockhouse with a sauna inside. The grill pavilon beside the terrasse looks very lovely, like the windmill on the area, too.”
