    “Value for money: top !!!
Shopping: about 15 minutes drive by car (after Bibbiena)
Poppi is a "city" but much more attractive for shopping
very good restaurants in the surrounding area
ideal for people who really want to relax and do not constantly need a change!”

“We were hiking there and that was really great. Shopping (clothes, bags, etc.) are present, albeit limited. Go to Essen are some very good local place, even at the normal price, but even to reach even by car. Before the wine therefore must be geknopelt who drives home ;-) There is also a weekly market in the next town, where we have one or the other times brought fresh prosciutto and delicious roast pork, plus a wine and then we have before our Finka a whole great evening spent. Absolute relaxation. Incidentally, the great garden centers are well worth a visit. Unfortunately, our Tuscan trees have (3 pieces) did not survive the winter.”

FORESTE CASENTINESI, MONTE FALTERONA E CAMPIGNA NATIONAL PARK :

Founded in 1993 and vast 36.800 hectares, it protects some of the best preserved forests of Italy and Europe. The relations between men and nature always have been in a delicated balance for one thousand years, from Camaldoli's monks to the feudatories Guidi Counts until the Grand Duke of Tuscany and the Kingdom and Republic of Italy.
Very interesting is the forest and floral heritage which besides includes two Natural Integral Parks (Sassofratino and La Pietra) where every human activity is absolutely prohibited, and immense forests with beeches, silver firs, oaks, elms, limes, ashes and many other species. In the Park live a big number of species of wild animals: red deer, fallow deer, roe deer, wild boars, foxes, badgers, porcupines, weasels, beech-martens, polecats, dormouses, squirrels and numerous kinds of reptiles, birds and amphibians and, last but not least, the rare wolves and royal eagles.
The great holy centers of Camaldoli and La Verna (Monastery, Hermitage and Sanctuary-Convent), inside the borders of the National Park, characterize and make unique this protected area.

the Casentino, water expresses both the spiritual and the curative, from ‘Lago degli Idoli’ to the sulphurous waters of Chitignano and the spas of Calcedonia and Bagni di Cetica. In days of old, each hill was the site of a castle belonging to a feudal lord, who controlled the zone surrounding his castle. The various Romanesque pievi were the focus of religious and spiritual life. For the people they were also a place to meet and trade their wares.
What form of hospitality is more welcome and delightful than good cooking? The local specialities are prepared with ingredients produced by the earth, natural and genuine. ‘Simple’ recipes revive the aromas and tastes of traditional rural life: acquacotta, scottiglia, potato tortelli, ravioli, pork, chestnuts.
It is also within striking distance of the Romagna sea-coast, renowned for its amusements, recreational facilities and the hospitality of its inhabitants.

The region in past times has proven to be an inspiration for artists, inventors and discoverers. As an example one can name the great Leonardo da Vinci who was invigorated on several occasions by the beauty of the nature here.

Typical Tuscany: Abundance of sights and day trips

Next to the picturesque landscape Tuscany impresses especially with its rich cultural and art historic heritage. There is much to see and discover – with its many famous cities leading the way: Especially Florence, the capital of Tuscany, impresses with its many important buildings such as the cathedrale, Ponte Vecchio over the river Arno, the Uffizi Gallery with the famous collection of paintings and the many Renaissance palaces of the Medici and other influential families.

Siena, Florence’s eternal “rival” offers a beautiful Gothic old city centre is not least famous for its long-standing university and Palio, the annual horse race which tajes place in the city centre. In Pisa most tourists are attracted by the Campanile, the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa at the Piazza del Miracoli. However the beautiful old town with its entwined alleys is also worth seeing.

The smaller cities San Gimignano, Volterra, Arezzo and Vinci are in a beautiful picturesque hilly setting. San Gimignano which is also known as “Manhattan of the Middle Ages” because of the towers that can be seen from far away have created an authentic historical cityscape which takes the visitor 500 years back in time. The insider’s tip is definitely the ice cream bar which sells the world’s best chocolate ice cream getting several awards in the process. In Vinci you can walk in the footsteps of the city’s renowned son – his first name was Leonardo. But also the less well known small towns and villages with markets and the one or other tourist attraction are worth a visit.

Agriturismo in Tuscany – Holiday home vacation in the countryside

Many of Tuscany’s traditional farms have been restored and converted into holiday accommodations. Agriturismo, which means loosely translated “holiday in the countryside” is a highlight for adults as well as for children who can play to one’s heart’s content on the wide ranging grounds of the farm. Usually these old farm and manor houses which are called rusticos are situated in idyllic landscapes such as the vineyards in Chianti or in the province Florence with great panorama views of the surrounding hills in Mugello or on the dark blue sea at the Maremma.

Holiday makers are not only offered the seclusion and open space for an individual vacation but also insights into the life of an Italian farmer. And with the ecologically produced local products from the farm shop or the weekly market in the next village one is able to prepare great traditional Italian dishes in the kitchen of the holiday home. Often these rusticos provide some extras such as a pool or an especially large terrace where one can enjoy a good glass of wine whilst watching the sun set.

Tuscany's coast: Bathing vacation at the Mediterranean

The best travel time for a holiday home vacation in Tuscany are the months of April to October as the temperatures remain constantly above 20°C and in midsummer can even average above 30 °C. A holiday house at the sea is ideal for a beach vacation. More than 1,000 of atraveo’s holiday homes are only up to one kilometre away from the beaches of Versilia, Maremma, Costa Etrusca or the Mediterranean island Elba. The water temperature during summer is on average 23°C and the shallow waters are ideal for bathing and splashing around. Alternatively one can also enjoy a bathing vacation in a holiday home in the heartland with a pool. When you relax on your floating air bed you cannot only enjoy sunshine but also take in the views of the beautiful scenery.
