The author Jürgen Sorges gives an impression of the region:
“When hearing of Tuscany most people think of olive groves, vineyards and alleys of cypresses which meander through gentle rolling hills. But the landscape is much more varied – and by far not as smooth as picture postcards try to make believe. The predominant part of the region is hilly, the northwest can even be described as mountainous, the southwest on the other hand especially along the coast of the Maremma is rather low as it used to be marshland. Today it is partly protected as a natural reserve.”

Here the lively bathing resorts line up like pearls next to one another. At daytime there is a great amount of hustle and bustle with sun shades, chiosci and ice cream sellers. At night holiday makers will be able to enjoy the pulsating night life in one of the clubs and bars.
Particularly families appreciate the wide sloping sandy beaches along the north western Tuscan coast between Viareggio and Massa that stretch out over 40 kilometres. Beyond the extensive beaches the bathing resorts Marina di Carrara, Marina di Massa, Forte dei Marmi, Marina di Pietrasanta, Lido di Camaiore and Viaréggio attract visitors. These resorts were created only at the start of the 19th century which was previously marsh. Today nothing is left as these bathing resorts are beautifully snuggled close to the beaches. A place one must visit is Viaréggio which is the centre of Versilia. In the Middle Ages the town held the port Lucca with it being extended to a resort only in the 19 century. Today the town does not only offer delightful beaches but also a glamorous beach promenade where many Art Nouveau villas can be found. Revellers will be able to choose from a number of discos, clubs and taverns that provide different entertainment guaranteeing nobody is bored.

Tuscany is not only known for its impressive hilly landscape and culture but also for it relaxing beach vacation along the 300 kilometre long coastline with great diversity that passes on into untouched nature.
