Holiday home for max. 5 persons
Drewsteignton, England (Devon), Great Britain
Old Devon farm with three adjacent romantic stone cottages and a private fenced garden in a peaceful rural setting
These three traditional stone cottages form part of an old Devon farmhouse and enjoy a picturesque setting in the heart of the thickly wooded Teign Valley, a perfect location to explore the Dartmoor National Park. Two of the cottages can sleep up to five persons each, while the third cottage provides room for up to ten persons. They can be booked together or separately. The cottages are situated adjacent to Fingle Woods, a vast area of ancient woodland boasting 850 hectares of lush vegetation and an exceptional native animal population. It is not without reason that the National Trust has bought this haven for wildlife to protect the ancient woodland with the help of the Woodland Trust.
The farm is an ideal holiday accommodation for all those who like walking, cycling, wild swimming, golfing, fishing, bird watching, photographing or painting and drawing. Kids and adults alike will appreciate the many footpaths and mountain biking trails in the immediate vicinity of the holiday cottages. Only 500 m away you will find an eight km² private lake where you are welcome to fish. Fishing permits are also available for the River Teign which is only approx. 500 m away from the cottage. Why not walk down the river to the pub for your lunch. Three golf courses are within a 5 mile distance. Castle Drogo, a National Trust property and the last castle to be built in England is also within walking distance.
The landlord lives on site in the farmhouse and is always happy to help with any questions you might have and advice on local walks, activities and eateries to ensure that you will enjoy a memorable holiday.
The cottages are located three km away from the A30, only an eight mile distance from Exeter. The nearest village of Dunsford is three km away and offers a post office, a small shop, a pub and a tea shop. It’s five kilometres to the nearest town of Moretonhampstead, where you will find butchers, and a wide range of shops, tea shops, pubs, a library, a gallery, a tourist information centre and even an outdoor swimming pool.
Romantic stone cottage for up to five persons
This charming stone-built cottage originates from the 16th century and has only recently been refurbished in the year 2014 when it was equipped with all the amenities you might need for a comfortable holiday. It was decorated with great attention to detail and all the soft furnishings are handmade.
The cottage with central heating and double glazing is spread over three floors and is equipped to comfortably accommodate up to five persons. The ground floor hosts the living/dining area, the kitchen and a newly renovated bathroom with a large modern walk-in shower and a toilet. The living area is furnished with sofas, a dining table and chairs, flat screen TV, DVD player complete with a selection of DVDs, bluetooth music system and a traditional wood burning stove providing plenty of ambient warmth. Exposed wooden beams on the ceiling add even more farmhouse character so here you can enjoy a true country living feeling. The separate fully equipped kitchen is complete with Ceran cooktop, oven, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, electric kettle and toaster. A staircase leads up to the first floor where you will find the two bedrooms and a bathroom. The first bedroom is furnished with a 135 cm x 190 cm wide double bed and the second bedroom has a 135 cm x 190 cm double bed and a 90 cm x 190 cm single bed. All mattresses are pocket sprung for a good night’s sleep. The newly renovated bathroom is equipped with a bath tub, wash basin and a toilet. A further staircase leads up to the mezzanine level with a small children's play area with toys and books (a stair gate provides safety). There is a rustic games barn with table football, ping pong table, snooker table and piano. Wireless Internet connection is offered free of charge. A highchair and baby cot is also available.
The kitchen leads out into the private fenced garden where you can relax and watch the birds come to the feeder, or sit out on the garden furniture on the patio. Well behaved dogs are very welcome by arrangement. The property is set in a 50 acre private nature reserve with beautiful 2 acre lake which provides a wonderfully tranquil place to explore or just sit and relax and watch the kingfishers and other birds feed.
