Tradition says that two sisters of the San Lorenzo area offered horses in exchange for saving them from the disease. After the plague, the women kept their promise and delivered the animals to the priest of the village. The horses were multiplying in the mountains and it was necessary to mark and cut the mane once a year to recognize them. The first official''Rapa'' goes back to the early eighteenth century. Since then, once a year, ''aloitadores'' meet the horses of the surrounding mountains and down to the Sabucedo gigs where horses are shaved, in front of thousands of visitors captivated by this spectacular tradition.
