This is how holiday rental owners described Begur
show more will find all kinds of nice shops and cozy bars and restaurants. The narrow, mostly traffic-free streets run from the San Esteve church to the center. Five watchtowers still testify to the age of the Moors and Pirates, and the old houses hint to the time when Begur was a fishing village. In the center, traces of 19th century Indian architecture have also been found. Discover the hospitality of the locals, the cozy local markets and charm of this village. Both in and around Begur you will find a wide variety of restaurants, from typical Spanish cuisine, with pinchos, tapas and traditional rice and fish dishes like paella, to Japanese cuisine. The quality of the ingredients produced in the region contributes to the international fame of this Empordà cuisine. The most traditional ingredient of Begur cuisine is the rock fish, "Peix de Roca". Each spring there is a gourmet event in which participating restaurants offer a special menu with only dishes based on this rock fish. The best way to see Begur is on foot. On the one hand, there are the old trails (Camins Vells) such as the Camí vell the Sa Tuna and the Camí vell de Fornells, which used to be used by the inhabitants of the city to walk to these bays. There are also two other hiking trails in Begur with medium and high difficulty levels. The Es Quinze Local Trail links the historic center of Begur with the steep coast and leads hikers through forests, along the coastline of Begur to the Aiguafreda. The Gran Recorregut route (GR-92) is more difficult and crosses Begur's coast from Sa Tuna Bay to Aiguablava Beach. There are several ways to reach Begur. Coming from France via the AP7 motorway, take exit 6, towards Begur - Palafrugell. Or exit 9 towards Palamós if you are coming from the southern direction. Girona Airport is 45 km away and Barcelona Airport is 142 km away. The nearest train station is Flaçà at 30 km from Begur and there are buses to Begur departing from Girona, Barcelona or Palafrugell.
