Tips for renting a holiday home in Estremadura
Stretching from Rio Tejo to Rio Mondego on the Atlantic coast, Estremadura, with its abundance of valleys and rolling hills, has long been the agricultural heartland of Portugal. Nowadays the coastal region is known as the Portuguese Riviera and is home to some of the country's finest beaches.
A holiday home in Estremadura
Rent a holiday apartment or a holiday house along the coast and start exploring the sights. The Convento de Cristo, the headquarters of the Knights Templar in Tomar, and the Mosteiro de Alcobaça, a 14th century abbey in Batalha, offer a glimpse of Portuguese history. Other important attractions can be found in the medieval walled village of Óbidos, a hot spot for holiday rental due to its 13th century castle and annual summer festival. Book a holiday house in Leiria and stroll around the old cobbled streets and squares in the heart of the city with its ancient royal castle. Along the coast the main beach resorts are Ericeira and Nazaré, both of which are popular with surfers looking for a holiday house or holiday home on the beach from where they can enjoy the impressive waves and tasty seafood dishes. Visitors to Estremadura should also be sure to reserve a couple of days to visit the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.
The best time to visit Estremadura
In Estremadura the summer lasts for 6 months, between May to October. During these months, holidaymakers can enjoy a blazing sun with average temperatures of 22°C. However, if you are travelling between June and August, you should know that temperatures can exceed 40°C. Winter is also a good time for a holiday rental in Estremadura. Between November and April, the weather is milder with temperatures ranging from 18°C to 19°C with December and January being the coldest months. With its many monasteries, castles, historic villages and vineyards, not to mention the miles of sandy beaches which bless its coastline, a holiday rental in Estremadura is a popular choice.
