    “There are a few shops near the house, but a rental car is recommended. There is a Continente supermarket with underground parking just 1.4 km away, which has everything you need. Otherwise you can get everywhere by car, even if it is constantly uphill and downhill. But that's Madeira. Funchal is a picturesque city with greenery and a very nice old town and many good restaurants.”

    “A charming place with many cozy restaurants and good shopping. Small savings tip: The restaurants in the second row (coming from the port) are just as good as the harbor but much cheaper.
    Perhaps the island leaders should better manage cruise tourism. Three Crusaders at the same time on site (occurred several times during our vacation) are just too much.”

Madeira is famous for its lush vegetation, with all varieties of plants and flowers and its sub-tropical gardens. The Laurisilva forests of Madeira have been declared a World Heritage Monument. Here there are also many exciting and gorgeous Levada walks. There are two championship golf courses. Also there is ocean swimming, sailing, game fishing, etc.,in addition to the marina in Funchal with modern basins for yachts and motor boats.
Although the coast is dominated by cliffs, there is access to the ocean. Approximately 15m by car is the protected bay of Machico, with its fine golden sand beach good for swimming with children, and the natural refuge of the Desertas Islands are but a brief commercial boat ride away.
