This is how holiday rental owners described Rome – Centro Storico

Rione Monti is the oldest district of Rome. I like the idea that the houses are resting their foundations of ancient Roman buildings and walking around the narrow streets you still have the feeling to walk the narrow lanes of the Suburra.
Then reach the Colosseum and the Roman Forum ...

on foot through the beautiful Colle Oppio Park and the Domus Aurea then touching is a great pleasure. The neighborhood is lively but not touristy, many the services (restaurants, food, rent a bike or scooter, etc), and the pleasant feeling to experience the city as one of its inhabitants.
For those who want to dedicate their stay to visit museums suggest the Roma Pass.per receive discounts on tickets and transport
For those who want to visit the Galleria Borghese is best to book in advance via web
In the house you will find guides, maps, brochures that will facilitate the visit of the city, over directions and information for those who want to visit Villa Adriana in Tivoli or Ostia Antica)

walk everywhere you go: Forum, the Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, Trevi Fountain, Trinity de Monti, Campo de 'Fiori, Piazza Navona ...
For the lazy is connected by metro and bus.
To those who want to go directly to St. Peter, I recommend going with the small electric bus, which runs through the center of Rome and back strictly on foot.

The Basilica of S.Giovanni, the Basilica of S.Croce in Gerusalemme and the ancient Roman Gate "Porta Maggiore":

allowed direct access to that basilica; others suggest it was a reference to Aula Majoris, a large hall of the nearby palace of St. Helena (today partly occupied by S. Croce in Gerusalemme). The gate was also known as Porta di S. Croce.
In 1838 Pope Gregory XVI decided to free the monumental arches of the aqueduct from later additions; the remaining fortifications were pulled down after the unification of Italy and in 1956 the ground was brought back to its original level.
Three lengthy inscriptions describe the completion of the aqueduct by Emperor Claudius and its restoration by Emperors Vespasian and his son Titus. An interesting aspect of the inscriptions is that they show the coexistence of republican institutions with the growing power of the emperors.
In the first inscription Claudius was described as:
his name and the references to his family were followed by Germanicus, a title given to him for war victories, and by a series of "positions" he held in the frame of the republican institutions: pontifex maximus, tribune of the people, consul, imperator and father of the nation; the numbers say how many times he was tribune and consul or was acclaimed imperator.
The inscription for Vespasian starts as follows:
IMP. CAESAR VESPASIANUS AUGUST. followed by the reference to the positions he held.
Finally the inscription for Titus begins with:
In these cases the title of imperator was emphasized by being directly associated with Vespasian and Titus.
